Jared & Jill Shapiro

Directors

The Shapiro's history with Camp Winadu dates back to 1984 when Jared began as a camper. He spent 12 consecutive summers as a camper, counselor, group leader and then returned years later as director/owner. Today, Jared and his wife, Jill live in Millburn, NJ with their three sons. Together, they carry on the beauty and traditions of the unique Winadu culture. Jared directs all aspects of camp life, while Jill oversees office operations, transportation, and communications. They enjoy camp with their sons Ethan, Reid and Bennett (a current Winadu camper).

Mike & Alissa Girling

Directors

Mike & Alissa joined the team in 2010, after meeting at another sleepaway camp in 2002. After a career as a school guidance counselor, Alissa works closely with families to ensure a seamless camp experience. Mike oversees staffing, food service, maintenance, and ensuring that all the “behind the scenes” aspects of camp life function smoothly. Alissa, Mike, and their daughters Hannah and Emma, reside in New City, New York.

Meg Keighley

Assistant Director

Meg joined the Winadu team in 2015. Originally from the UK, she has been in the states for the last 15 years and now lives in San Antonio, TX. Meg found camp when she was considering what to do after graduating college and simply never left! Now part of the full-time team, as the Assistant Director, Meg oversees the program & special events team in the summer and helps out with staff recruitment in the off-season, traveling to many of the international agency fairs.

Willem & Isabelle

Full-Time Team

Willem (known at camp as "V") joined Winadu in 2019 as a Baseball Coach and is now part of the full-time team. In the off-season, he works on staff recruitment and in the summer he is a Group Leader. He and his wife, Isabelle, met at camp in 2020 and since then, Isabelle also joined the Winadu team. Isabelle runs our media team in the summer and helps with a range of things in the off-season, including staff recruitment, social media and parent communication.

Sarah

Head Nurse

Sarah joined the Winadu team in 2015, when her son was a camper. Since then she has become a vital part of our Leadership Team, running our health center. Sarah is available year-round for any staff members who have medical questions and can be reached at healthcenter@campwinadu.com

Rachel

Summer Assistant Director

Rachel joined Winadu in 2015 as a Group Leader, having spent many summers growing up at camp herself. Since then she has become the Summer Assistant Director, overseeing all the age groups on camp. In the off-season Rachel is a high school Spanish Teacher in New York State and counts down the days until she is back at camp!
